Bubble Column Infection Risk

  1. Dust and debris are drawn into the water via the air pump. Fibres from carpets and clothing, along with dead skin, can harbour micro-organisms that contaminate the water.
  2. Warmth, light, and aeration create ideal conditions for microbial growth. Bacteria multiply on the inner walls of the tube, forming slime that supports further growth.
  3. Water used to fill or top up the tube may contain high counts of bacteria. Tap water is not always sterile.
  4. As bubbles burst at the surface, they release tiny droplets (aerosols) into the air, which can carry bacteria around the tube.
